Prehistoric axe and pot
Marks the beginning of the history floor starting with an examination of the four major archaeological periods used to categorize the earliest human occupation of South Carolina: Paleo, Archaic, Woodland, Mississippian. Starting with Paleo-era Clovis points, each major area is depicted with artifacts and a diorama. Objects include stone axe heads, earthenware for food and liquid, fiber-temper pottery sherds, a burial urn and chunky stones.
