FUTURE EXPANSION!
Digital Dome Planetarium

Fly through the universe in your virtual spaceship! Enjoy a concert set to a dazzling laser light show like you were actually there! The largest dome in the state, the Museum’s Digital Dome Theater will be a totally immersive environment that surrounds viewers with stunning multi-media images and digital sound design.
The 125-seat South Carolina State Museum Digital Dome Theater will be built for presenting educational and entertaining programs about art, music, earth sciences and astronomy, to name a few. The digital projector will recreate the night sky on the dome and simulate motion to allow visitors to virtually orbit planets and move through the heavens. The 55-foot dome-shaped projection screen will display the complex motions of the sky as well as music and art programs, and theater and laser light shows. Closed-circuit television also will allow real-time experiences, either from the Museum’s Observatory or from NASA downlinks.
